
Chellie Spiller is a professor of Management and Leadership at the University of Waikato Management School, New Zealand. A 2022 Leader-in-Residence at the Atlantic Institute, Oxford University, and a Fellow of the International Leadership Association, Professor Spiller has held prestigious fellowships, including a Fulbright Senior Scholar position at the Harvard Kennedy School and the University of Arizona.
Professor Spiller鈥檚 scholarship is grounded in Indigenous wisdom and ethical leadership, offering transformative perspectives on business ethics. She challenges conventional business paradigms by integrating Indigenous values, such as kaitiakitanga (loosely translated as guardianship), into leadership and organisational development. Her work emphasises a holistic approach to business that fosters relational well-being, ethical stewardship, and sustainability, providing a blueprint for embedding ethical leadership into governance, strategy, and organisational culture.
Professor Spiller has worked with organisations of all walks of life including large corporates, consulting firms, the judiciary, the health sector, community groups, government agencies and Indigenous enterprises鈥攖o apply Indigenous leadership principles in real-world business contexts. Through these engagements, she has helped shape ethical, purpose-driven organisations that prioritise sustainability, cultural integrity, and long-term value creation.
